Workflow and Wizard
Compiere provides a built-in workflow system. A workflow is a guided series of steps where potentially more than one user is involved. A step can be starting a process, running a report or entering information in a window.
Approval hierarchies do not require an explicit workflow, but become involved automatically, if the current user's approval limits are not sufficient. The same applies, if tasks, in a workflow, cannot be performed due to functional or data security restrictions of the current user.
Workflows could be month-end tasks, etc. The system provides predefined workflows for many non-routine tasks.
Workflows maintain a context, automatically querying the required data or providing defaults for new records to be entered.
Whereas Workflow connects steps, Wizards provide guidance within the fields of windows.
Attachments and Images
Compiere allows attachments for every record in the system. The attachments can be simple notes, external files (e.g. Excel) or images. If a record has an attachment, is displayed in the toolbar.
Alerts
A user can define business exception situations to receive proactive notifications. The notification can be a simple note or running a process or report.
Examples are a list of customers with a certain percentage over credit limit, long outstanding open items, new customer, not moving inventory, etc.
In the background Compiere automatically provides proactive reporting of issues resulting from system consistency monitoring and failure detection
Scheduling
Compiere provide an integrated scheduler for processes and reports, and the result is sent via Email to a particular user or a mailing list. This allows easy Report Distribution.
Email integration
Standard (multilingual) Emails are generated by the system for notifications like approval requirements or Alerts.
Email can also be used to create customer letters or automatic confirmations.
If an error occurs, the user can send the error message with system generated supporting information to an internal support person or Compiere Support directly.
Help
Compiere provides an integrated, customizable multilevel help system. Every task, report and window and tab has overview information, every field has a 'tool-tip' hint and a help text.
If the help is not sufficient, the user can 'zoom' from the help window to Compiere's online Internet help system for up-to-date information, tips and Q&A sections.
